Worker's Compensation Essay

While frauds committed by employees and employers have some reasoning behind them though they do not justify the crimes, such as decrease coverage or high premium, provider frauds are committed purely for the enrichment of themselves. As mentioned before, it is easier for the insurance companies to pay out claims that seen to be incorrect and usually are false than to fight them in courts. This is the biggest reason why there should be a more uniformed and standardized rules and regulations for the Worker’s Compensation systems. In order to achieve uniformity, it needs to be done on the Federal level. If the states remain in control when it comes to Worker’s Compensation systems, it won’t be long before the whole system breaks down and left with multiple issues that the taxpayers have to deal with. From the cases, it is clear that provider frauds usually lead to the harshest of sentence, up to 396 years. However, regardless of the punishments, people will continue to exploit a broken system. Since the opportunities is out there, people think less about getting caught and more about how to make the most out of it. To further the efforts of new rules and regulations on the Federal level to reduce these frauds, a dedicated department should be erected to handle Worker’s Compensation claims and frauds. As of now, each state treats Worker’s Compensation differently and has different take on fighting the frauds. While some states are making the effort to fight these frauds, most does not. It is not that they do not care or are unaware of the situations, but because it is very costly and time consuming to fight them. Instead of placing the burdens on each state to have their own dedicated department to fight frauds, the Federal government should step in and do what they could not. Something similar to the IRS for the taxes or the FDA for the food and drug
