Millennials or Generation Y were born from the early 1980’s to the early 2000’s. They are known for being the most tech-savvy out of all the generations. They are confrontational when it comes to authority. According to Meister & Willyerd, millennials are not willing to sacrifice their personal lives for their work lives. They view work as an essential part of their lives and this in turn places a heavy emphasis on jobs that are personally fulfilling. Competition within any industry is high, therefore innovation and creativity are essential for organization to get ahead of the competition. Having many different perspectives comes up with options that organizations may have never thought of. “Multicultural teams generate alternatives easily because team diversity results in an array of diverging ideas (Adler, 2008, p.138).” When an organization is diverse in age they can come up with and invent more options and create many more solutions than if they were all younger or older. Imagine asking a Baby Boomer and a Millennial to come up with ideas for a project and neither individual believes the others way is good. The Baby Boomer believes that the Millennial should not have the opportunity because they are new comers. This presents a lot of tension in the work environment and makes it impossible to come to the best idea for the project. Even though an issue like this may not be a big one it affects the organization directly because the best idea cannot be come up with. The boomer is dismissing the millennials ideas because they do not have as much experience. While the millennial may be dismissing the Baby Boomer because they believe they are condescending towards their ideas.
