Work-family conflict (and family-work conflict) are both linked with a variety of negative outcomes for workers. But as technology becomes omnipresent in peoples’ lives, the line between work and home continues to blur. What effect does this have on well being and job performance? It is the occurrence of irreconcilable demands between the work and family roles of an individual that makes it difficult for the individual to perform in both the spheres. Theories suggest a bi-directional existence of the conflict between work and family. The two directions here are work-to-family conflict and the family-to-work conflict. Work-to-family conflict occurs when work related responsibilities interfere with family responsibilities. These include, work overload, extensive, inflexible, or irregular work hours. Conversely, family-to-work conflict occurs when family responsibilities intrude into the work activities.
