Introduction Balancing work and personal life can be a difficult challenge, especially when there are no supports available in either environment. When you factor in the added stresses of being a leader (especially in the social services) it can have an impact on one's mental and physical health. According to Green, Miller, & Aarons, (2013) this is quite a common issue for leaders in social services. There is already a high burnout rate due to the nature of services that are being provided to such a vulnerable population. It can cause a psychological- related syndrome that includes emotional exhaustion as well as a strong feeling that personal accomplishments are not being met. There are many emotional demands in the social services which has be proven to lead to a high burnout rate especially when there are not enough resources to handle the stressors. According to Green, Miller, & Aarons, (2013) staff turnover rates affect not only the budget's of the organization but the quality of services as well. In order to combat these stressors that lead to burnout there should be a plan in place as well as resources …show more content…
Managers were on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They would receive phone calls all through out the evening that disrupted any chance for quality family time or occasions. If there was a staff that called off they would have to either find coverage or go in and work themselves- this was not ideal as managers were on salary and did not get paid for the overtime. The direct care workers would have to work on average of 20-30 hours of overtime every two weeks due to the staff shortage. This caused services to suffer as the staff that were working were getting burned out. Essentially, burnout out was a given and the staff turnover rates were extremely high. The organization failed to provide supports in this area which allowed for a total unbalance in the working- personal
