Words To Describe Andromeda

Improved Essays
I've chosen Andromeda because of what it means in my life personally. The Andromeda constellation is called "The Chained Lady", and I used to live in a situation where I felt, and sometimes physically was, a chained lady. But in the end she is rescued, just like I was. It is one of only 48 constellations from the Greco-Roman era during the 2nd century. It is most commonly found in the autumn sky, and is one of the largest constellations in the sky.

Andromeda's mother, Cassiopeia, "The Queen", often bragged about her being the prettiest of all the sea nymphs. The sea nymphs complained to Poseidon, God of the Sea, about her, and petitioned that he punish Cassiopeia for her vanity. Poseidon sent a sea monster, Cetus, to attack Ethiopia, where Cassiopeia was ruler. Her husband panicked and sacrificed his daughter to save his kingdom, as had been foretold by an Oracle. Andromeda was chained to a rock. She was saved when Perseus used the head of Medusa to turn the sea monster into stone. The two got married and had nine kids, two daughters and one son. Their whole story is told throughout the heavens as fall passes by.

He wanted his name to be carried out throughout the land for generations to come, and that couldn't be done with a daughter. He despised her, and growing up he made sure that she knew it from the day that she was born. For as long as Andromeda could remember, her father treated he like dirt. There were times where she even questioned whether or not she was a true son of his, or if she was simply a servant or a pauper of some kind of street urchin. It was awful. She grew up not knowing what it was like to have friends. She was always alone. This particular summer's day was her worst in living

The constellation I have chosen as my favorite is Virgo (The Virgin), for the simple fact that it is my zodiac sign. I do not know much about the constellation except for a few bits of information, like the fact that it is the second largest constellation that can be seen in the sky. The creation myths of virgo is another piece of information I know from previous research. Virgo is associated with a few different Greek and Roman myths of different goddesses. She is sometimes considered to be the goddess of wheat and agriculture (Demeter-Ceres).…

In a patriarchal society, women often have to use other ways than force and brawn to achieve power. In The Odyssey, by Homer which takes place in patriarchal Ancient Greece, the female characters are faced with the same problem. Odysseus’s crew is a group made up of many strong men, but Circe still challenges their power by using her sexuality to lure Odysseus and his crew into her caves. Athena, although less powerful than Poseidon, still counters his attacks on Odysseus in order to save Odysseus’s life. Another example are the suitors, a group of about one hundred men that could never be challenged by a single person’s strength, yet Penelope uses tricks to fend off the many suitors and manipulate them to get what she wants.…

Even today there is still work to be done, ideas and theories to confirm and disprove, and plenty of other things to explore.…
