Word walls in the classroom are important because they provide daily visuals of how words are spelled, lists words that are often used in the text for students to reference during class activities, and also helps to build students’ phonics and spelling skills. Students’ literacy skills can be improved, when a word wall is used in their classroom. Word wall activities help to promote student participation during class. One reason why different colors are used in the creation of word walls is to distinguish between words that are easy to recall versus those that may be more of a challenge to pronounce and spell. The classroom that I was subbing in had a word wall, but it was not designed in a very effective way for learning to take place. All of the words were created using one color. This may be one reason why, when we were practicing over the words students was having a hard time spelling them. Another reason for the color is to segment content areas to make it easier for students to recognize what words or content goes together. For example, my project was centered around English Language Arts (ELA), so I Googled, “The Most Misspelled Words in 5th Grade”, because this is the grade that I desire to teach. I also chose to use these words in my project, because I plan to take the word wall that I create for this project to my classroom to help my 5th grade for my students to practice during their down time or free time in the classroom. I was able to find a ton of words, so I copied and pasted the list of words that I found in a Word Document. Then, I reviewed each list of words and compared the words from each list to select the most frequently misspelled words from each list. Bougie, it’s a word that my brother has called me multiple times and I was never a hundred percent sure what he was really calling me. In an attempt to contradict him I looked up the meaning of the word, and sadly I couldn’t contradict him a bit. The word bougie is stolen from the French word bourgeois, which means -according to Webster's dictionary- marked by a concern for material interests and respectability and a tendency toward mediocrity. In America, the slang word bougie translates to being pretenouise in certain areas and with certain things in your life. For me, I found out that I am bougie when it comes to coffee, body sprays, colored pencils and sketchbooks.…

During my observation of an ESL push-in classroom, I have come across with many pedagogical issues and concerns that were brought in the Methods of Teaching class. Such topics include the use of cooperative Learning, classroom setting, adapting lesson plan and differentiated instructions by incorporating visuals, hands-on activities, simulations of real life situations etc so that students can nurture their skills academically, linguistically, socially as well as emotionally. The purpose of this report is to focus solely on the two major components of teaching-learning environment, and the components are relatively described as the classroom environment and the participation of students in relation with what I have learned in this class. When I entered the classroom, the first thing fascinated me was that all the four word walls were well labeled in both the languages(English and Spanish) with appropriate pictures. The setting of the room was safely configured, and convenient as well as appealing to the kids.…
