The U.S. Government ordered two military incursions into Mexico during the Mexican Revolution, the first was the invasion and occupation of Veracruze in 1914 and the second was the “Punitive Expedition” of 1916-1917 looking for Pancho Villa. Woodrow Wilson was reluctant to send troops to Mexico in 1914, but he desired to depose of the government of General Huerta, by seizing Veracruz, which was the main port for arms for the Mexican army. Huerta had murdered his democratically elected predecessor and was a dictator he also could not maintain order or protect U.S. private and public interests in Mexico. Due to the successful invasion the U.S. troops helped oversee the removal of Huerta by supplying the forces of Venustiano Carranza with arms
