Our lives are consumed with challenges and in most cases the result is pain. The worst type of pain is realizing that in the blink of a moment your dream has become unreachable. We heard a swoosh and a creak as the wicked wind pushed and pulled the vulnerable cart. I felt my warm blood sink from my frozen face and my back began to stick to my tight fitted coat. I looked up at the rest of the ski carts which were moving in sync, following each other into oblivion. My eyes then wondered down as I slowly searched the winter wonderland, it was exquisite. The snow gently sprinkled the scattered mountains which were becoming smaller and smaller as our cart followed the rest of the lifts into the puffy clouds.
One by one we wriggled off the ski lift and like penguins, we waddled in the snow. I watched my friends as they anxiously pulled their glasses on and clicked their boots into the skis. It was my turn, I squeezed my toes, bent my heel, push, pull, wriggle and click. My skis were on and I was ready to face the slopes. The fear I initially felt drained from my tense body as I pulled myself around the snow, slipping and sliding.

Panic shot through my veins and I could hear nothing. My emotions were controlling me and my emotions lead me to the place I despised most, pain. Uncertainty was dragging me backwards, panic pulled me down to the ground and worry dismissed any control I once had. My legs twisted and my body tumbled forward. The silence was abruptly dismissed as I heard a gunshot. I soon realized it was not a gunshot, but it was something just as severe. My left fibula snapped like a tree branch and a high pitched scream escaped my numb lips. It was a moment frozen in time. The snow seeped through my woolen jacket and slithered down my frozen back.
