Wonder The Protagonist August

In the book Wonder the protagonist August is very self - conscious about who he is. The first reason that lead to believe that August (or Auggie) is self conscious is that Auggie is worried about attending a school for the very first time. Also, Auggie is embarrassed about what she looks like. The last reason that lead me to think that Auggie is self conscious is that she wants to be ‘’ normal’’ and do ‘’normal’’ things like other kids, to fit in.

The evidence that lead me to think that Auggie is worried about attending school for the very first time is that he was very nervous about the school tour and meeting new kids to be his friends. He was mostly afraid of what the principle and the kids might think of him. Secondly, the only school he has ever been to would be his sister’s, Via. Even at Via’s school people gave disgusted looks . On page 12 August says “ I don't want to go to school”. Because he is so self conscious he does not want to go to school or meet anyone from his new school.

Auggie has always kept his hair down so no one can see his face. He always thinks he is ugly that's why he always keeps his hair long. When he had the option to go to school he says” I will be the only kid in school who looks like me.” He had never been to a school so he does not know what people think about him.His ears are also deformed and shaped like a cauliflower. Also, his skin looks like it has been burned in a fire.He should not think negative about himself then he will feel normal. This is another reason August is self
