This part of Wonder by R.J Palacio starts off by focusing on Justin, Via’s first boyfriend. Via brings Justin over to meet August. In a short conversation, Justin convinced Via that he isn’t freaked out by August. Then out of the blue Via dares Justin to try out for the lead role in the upcoming school drama, Our Town, which he gets. Although Via doesn’t get the female leading role but she was still on the play.

Forgetting their past and working together on a science project, Jack and August make a battery that powers a lamp by utilizing a potato, and get an A for their work. It was so well built that Mr.Tushman displayed it in the science fair. After this, they were best friends again and did everything together

Later in the story, Mom realizes that Via didn’t tell her about her part on the play. Therefore, she had a conversation with Via on this topic which turned into a fight, afterward. Next day Via brings home three tickets. Everyone goes to the play and were left stunned by Via’s and Justin’s performance. There they also spotted Miranda Via’s former best friend who was really happy to see August after a long period. Miranda was upset because no one from her family came to watch the play. So, to cheer her up Via’s parents invited her over for the celebration dinner.

Everyone enjoyed the trip beside the incident. It happened at night when Jack and August were coming back from peeing and accidently ran into some older kids who started freaking out when they saw August. They called him names, ripped his shirt and tried to scare him away with a flashlight. This resulted in August losing his hearing aids, but the cost was covered by the
