Wonder By R. J Palacio Summary

1. THEME: The theme in the realistic fiction story Wonder by R.J Palacio is, it doesn’t matter what’s on the outside it’s the inside that counts. I know that’s probably the most cliche saying ever but, it’s true especially in the book Wonder. I say this because the main character August isn’t very well liked at first by anyone but Summer, because of the way he looks, this is especially sad because August has an amazing personality according to Jack, Jack says “... if all the guys in the fifth grade were lined up against a wall and I got to choose anyone I wanted to hang out with, I would chose August.” I think Jack says this because, August may not be the most popular kid in the grade but, he is a great friend to have despite his face. …show more content…
It was much like life proving that there is always two sides to the story. August is also very relatable because, he is an ordinary kid with an extraordinary face, whereas I’m an extraordinary kid with an ordinary face. August and Via are both so different. Via is the most self sufficient character in this story whereas, August and no offense August is basically helpless and he needs his parents for everything. Via says “I’ve never asked for help with my homework,” Via also says “August is the sun, we all orbit around him.” . These quotes prove my point that the two siblings are different, but like any siblings they are also similar too! Both are extremely smart, live in Manhattan, come from the same parents, Isabella and Nate Pullman , and both mourned Daisy’s death. Another set of similair charectors are August and Miranda. August and Miranda are both similair in the sense that they are both growing up, and both feel like they are drifting away from Via more and more. August and Miranda are also alike because both wish they could have had a standing ovation at the end of OUR TOWN. August says in the Ending ‘... I imagined how cool it would be to be Via and Justin right then having all these people standing up and cheering for them, …” . Miranda

Introduction: One may not realize that a person is living in isolation, especially if they are seen around people. It is quite a wonder that one can be quite alienated from normal life or people while still living around them. More so, it is surprising how a person could just choose to live indoors because of his phobia and be happy enjoying his own company. In the two works of literature, The Pleasure of my Company by Steve Martin and The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, this theme has been expressed in different ways. While Martin in his book, The Pleasure of My Company expresses the theme of isolation by developing a protagonist who is confined from the normal social life like other people with his fears, Salinger develops such a character…
