One like no Others In the story “Wonder” by R.J Palacio, Auggie Pullman the protagonist of the story was born with mandibulofacial dysostosis, this disease affects the development of bones and other facial tissues. Ever since he was little he has tried to hide his face from the public because people would stare at him and make little comments. This year Auggie is starting 5th grade, however, it will be his first year in a public school. Throughout the year at Beecher Prep, we see Auggie growing up and accepting his appearance.

Auggie was extremely scared of the idea because of what people would think about him, “ Since I’ve never been to a real school before, I am pretty much totally and completely petrified.” (Page. 3) He himself was afraid and timid about going to school and engaging with people. As the year starts out, Auggie is unsure about himself and also about his “friends” and gets bullied by a kid named Julian. Teasing him on his appearance… A few months in, in middle school, we see Auggie is starting to leave his childhood, for example, he cuts off his obi wan Kenobi hair, and took down his star wars posters. While people talk about him and look at him every day, Auggie does seem to get adopted. Some days Auggie didn’t want to go to school, “ I don't want to go to school," I answered, folding my arms.”, but what made him go was his relationship with Jax and Summer. Jax had been asked to be his “friend” since the beginning of the year, by the director, Trushman, to make him feel included. Summer, however, was not asked to be his friend, since the first day of school she sat next to him at the cafeteria. Since then they became
