Jack first saw Auggie when he was about 5 or 6 years old with his little brother and their babysitter, Veronica. At first glance he got really scared. His babysitter scolded him and explained how they might have hurt the little boys feelings even though they weren't trying to. After getting to know middle school, Jack writes, “ And whenever I’ve seen him, I try to remember what Veronica said… It’s hard not to sneak a second look. It was a chance for her to do something as Via; not as Auggie’s sister. However, one night at dinner, August realized Via did not want him at the play and was very hurt. After a big argument and the sudden death of there pet, Via brings home play tickets for the family. Via realized that that she was important to her family. Jack Will’s conflict is also resolved in the book when he hits Julian in the face. He chose to be a loyal friend to Auggie over being mean just to fit with some of his old friends. Finally, August’s conflict is resolved. He realizes that his physical features do not make him who he is.
