Women's Studies Class Analysis

Decent Essays
I talked with my co-workers about this class because they were interested in what I was taking this term. When I said Women’s Studies was one of the classes it instantly became a topic for the morning conversation. They both seemed to be supportive of feminism. Oh though we have not personally advocated for feminism, we are grateful for the changes in times because we are all educated and have careers.
Coming into this class I thought I would learn about women in the world who have been in powerful position or who have made history being in positions equal to men. For a long time women were not allowed to work. I support feminism because I think we should be treated equal. Just because I am a women doesn’t mean that I can’t or won’t do a job

All throughout the history of the world there has always been the issue that man is superior to woman. This has been an ongoing fight that women of all races and ethnicities have been faced with in some way or form. In Patricia L. Bryan and Thomas Wolf’s nonfiction novel Midnight Assassin, the authors portray Mrs. Hossack’s as a weak feminine character, this causes her trial to be slanted due to her presumed feminine traits: through the lenses of feminism, this brings the issue of categorizing women to fit specific profiles to the light of the reader. To expand, the term feminism has been used vaguely and not many people understand the true ideals of the movement. Feminism is the advocacy of woman’s rights fighting for equal roles as men…

The 1960s and 1970s was a time of civil rights revolution when Americans began to question the authority and claim their rights which led to several movements. In the 1960s women were limited in what they could do at home and in the work place. Women were expected to stay home and take care of home chores and children and to be committed to their husbands. Women at that time were limited to jobs as teachers, nurses, and secretaries. They were not allowed in other professions that reserved for men only.…

Argumentation: The Feminist Movement has the goal of making sure that women’s rights are equal to men’s rights. This point is valid because women are no different from men besides some body parts and physical characteristics. There is not a real reason for men to be able to get higher paying jobs than women, men and women have plenty of careers that are the same but men get a higher percentage of money. For every 64 cents that an African American woman earns, a white man gets a dollar. That is 36 cents more than what some women are getting even though they Kalau 5 have the same job.…

What every lecture, reading, and website taught me, I hope to take with me in my everyday life beyond college. When I walked into class the first day, I considered myself to be a well informed individual, I was wrong. My sense of Women’s and Gender Studies was that it focused solely on feminism, my only grasp on feminism was ‘equal rights for men and women’. Yes that is sort of true, but I was only skimming the surface. Until now, as I write this essay, I was not able to admit that my view on social justice was narrow.…

Del explores her sexuality, her religious beliefs, her sense of self-empowerment, and the function of gender in society.
