Women's Roles In The Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet

In the book of the “Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” Lord Capulet yells, “ And you bet not hang, beg, starve, die in the street”(Act 3 scene 5 line 194). Lord Capulet said this to Juliet for not wanting to marry Paris. Women had no control over themselves because of men, back then when it was a different era. It had to do with Elizabeth Women’s roles, yet Juliet didn’t followed the rules and had to pay the consequences. Which was death and not being able to be with Romeo.
To begin with, women's would have arranged marriages with men without the women wanting to. Also they had to love the men without actually loving them. A line from the “Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, “Speak briefly can you love of paris love?” (line 96 act I. scene III). They asked Juliet if she likes Paris, but she doesn't because her true lover is Romeo. Another Scene from “Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” “ i'll look to like if looking liking movie/ but no more deep will I endart mine eye/ than your consent gives strength to make it fly” (line 97-99 act I. scene III). Juliet is going to marry Paris, but Juliet doesn't want to because she likes Romeo her true love.

In Romeo and Juliet’s era this would happen to Juliet where she really wasn’t allowed to do anything because of her father. A line from the “Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, “ Noless? Nay, bigger! Women grow by men” (line 95 Act I. scene III). The nurse in the story says that women were raised by men. Juliet’s nurse thinks that thats correct that women should be raised by men. In Act 3 Juliet gets punished and yelled at by her dad, and her mom couldn't do anything because of the rule where women were ruled by men.
