From the Christian account of creation, the woman was created from a man as his helper. Her purpose was to be a companion to Adam that he will not be lonely. This marks the beginning of inequity based on religious scripture. The role women play is defined from the beginning of religion by God and various books in the old and new Testament affirm this relationship. In most religions, women have had a rough time to get any place in the church as well as other positions of leadership in other areas (class lecture: Men and Women in the Nineteenth Century American Religious Culture). But the condition has significantly improved over the years. For instance, the woman in Muslim countries is not allowed to lead men, but in the recent times, some woman holds positions in parliaments (class lecture: World Religions in America, Pt. 1). In Judaism, they have had women who have served as cabinet ministers in Israel. Some religion like Judaism have less emphasis on roles played by gender as they consider God as both male and female.
It is evident that women have had a long relationship with religion which dates ages back. With the passing of time, the relationship has changed, and drastic changes in the way women relate to religion have changed. The roles which were previously reserved as men's only have also been given to women. There is still a long way to go for women as still; the relationship has a lot to be streamlined if there is going to be a gender balance in the world as religion still holds them
