Ahhotep was the mother of Ahmose and wife of Sequenqure Tao I, her mother was Queen Tetshiri. It is debated that Ahhotep was not only regent, but co-regent, since a doorway into the Nubian fortress at Buhen links her name with Ahmose. She was in charge of holding the Kingdom together and protecting it internally, while Ahmose was expelling the Hyksos. Ahhotep played an active military role at a young age, since it was necessary. After the expulsion of the Hyksos; she conducted a military campaign to rid Egypt from rebels in Upper Egypt. Ahhotep held title such as, “King’s Great Wife”, “King’s Daughter” and “Ne’bet ta”. Nebet ta meaning “Mistresses of the two lands” reveals that she controlled a particular region in Egypt. She was so involved with military campaigns that she died in one against the Hyksos. Ahhotep was such very significant leader that she was given the golden flying pendant; a reward from Ahmose and Egypt for aiding it, in its consolidation. Evidence of her achievements and significance are displayed on a stela at Karnak, which Ahmose erected in her honour. She was the wife and sister of Ahmose, daughter of Seqenenre, mother of Amenhotep I and the mistress of wo lands .Ahmose-Nefertari acquired many titles; “King’s Mother”, “King’s Daughter”, “King’s Sister” and “King’s Great Wife”. However, her most significant title is the highest religious status of all New Kingdom Queens, “God’s Wife of Amun”. She was the first to receive this significant title which reveals that she occupied both economical and religious roles in the state cult of Amun-Re. She held a significant religious role and became, “the second priestess of Amun”. This helped her increase her status and allowed her and future queens to participate in finance, thus creating financial roles for queens. Ahmose-Nefertari acquired a significant role in the Amun-Re cult as she held office in “The Divine Adorative”. She also had an economic role as she and Amenhotep I founded the worker’s village at Deir el-Medina. Ahmose-Nefertari’s role was so significant that she controlled the Harem of Amun, owned independent states and supervised many of Amun’s building programs.
