The songs selected were all very different. “Selene’s Boat” was very soft and the choir stayed very still throughout the song. “Ave Maris Stella” was a required piece, but the choir did it well. They performed it at a slow tempo, and sang the entirety of the song without the conductor. Finally, the song “Barso Re” was in Hindi, and was very fast paced. The students in the choir seemed to enjoy “Barse Re” the most, as they moved more for that song. However, the choir had poor diction, which made it hard to understand what they were saying. In addition, some of the words in “Barso Re” were mispronounced, which took away from the meaning of the song.
The sound of the choir did vary. “Ave Maris Stella” had a rich, dark tone, but “Barso Re” sounded considerably brighter and somewhat squeaky. “Selene’s Boat” had a tone that was not as rich as the one used for “Ave Maris Stella,” but more dark and rounded than “Barso Re.” “Selene’s Boat” was also very quiet throughout the song, which made it sound somewhat like ripples moving through a lake. “Ave Maris Stella” crescendoed at the end.
