I believe women are powerful in many other ways that should be framed more in media than to being a beauty pageant. For example, women who are well educated or successful in many fields need to be under the spotlight more. Because exposing successful examples of women will inspire more women to be educated, which will have a great outcome on society. Media plays an important role in the propaganda it creates for such shows, just because of the profit they will make behind these kind of shows. Many people think that beauty pageants are airheaded and know nothing but how to apply makeup and dress trendy. Some restaurants require waitresses to wear skimpy outfits with plunging necklines, but for waiters there is no applied requirement for wearing outfit. This is also the result of the objectifying of women. The media framing of the wrong imagery about women has contributed to the underestimation of the mental capabilities of women. It is a major disadvantage for women because in 2015, there are only 22 women who are currently in power out of 196 countries in the world. Because some people would vindicate their opposition to women becoming presidents by saying, “imagine a woman president crying” or “pregnant”. Some people ignore qualifications required for such positions, and justify their lame unfair excuse for why women are not favored to hold leadership position. Another example of restraints by social gender role stereotypes, is that women can’t run for president if they have young children. According to “Politics & The Life Sciences”, “Voters hold gender stereotypes that depict women as more nurturing than aggressive, logical or ambitious” (Bauer 22). Holding a leadership position is a job just like any other job in the world. It requires certain characteristics and qualifications to suit the job.
