Johnston explained how she felt about Antigone’s choice about dying. She went against to Creon law, which led her to death. When we refer to “Antigone’s choice,” we typically mean the choice that Antigone makes in undertaking to bury Polyneices against her uncle’s wishes” (Johnston .3). Moreover, Johnston explains that women sacrifices to make someone else life better. Author is explaining how women finish their life for their love ones as Antigone did went to death because to give better afterlife to her brother. “I will bury him myself an even if I die in the, that death will be glory. I will lie with the one I loved and lobed by him an outrage sacred to the gods! I have longer to please the dead than please the living here: in the kingdom down below I will lie forever. Do as you like, dishonor the laws the gods hold in honor”

A rule is a set of explicit or understood regulations or principles, governing conduct within a particular activity or sphere. Rules are necessary to maintain peace and order in a society. Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, and Antigone, a play by Sophocles, portray events in which rules in societies may be rightly imposed or broken under certain circumstances. In Fahrenheit 451, a futuristic society has assigned firemen to burn books in order to rewrite history, and a naive adolescent attempts to uncover the truth behind it. In Antigone, a king has denied the right for a woman to bury her brother, and she seeks help from her sister.…

A sister, who’s love for her family’s honor drives her to stand trial in the court made solely of men, and object against their decisions and their authority over the lives of her fellow Greeks. Antigone’s Character as describe by Aristotle’s Possession of Virtues In Sophocles’ tragedy, “Antigone,” the title character could be seen as fulfilling Aristotle’s three criteria for a virtuous action as he lays them out in Book II of the Nicomachean Ethics. Antigone does, apparently, know how to perform the correct burial rituals (thereby fulfilling the first criterion), she clearly chooses the action and chooses it for the sake of her brother (which seems to cover the second criterion), and, given that the text tells us that she has performed burial rights for all of her other deceased family members and that she seems to be consistently passionate about burying Polynices , she would appear to be doing it from, as the third criterion states, “a firm and unchangeable character” (Bk. II, Ch. 4, par. 2). However, given certain of her statements in the last few speeches that she makes in the play, one could also make the case that she does not, in fact, fulfill the last of these three criteria and, consequently, does not really act in what Aristotle would consider a virtuous manner, after all.…

In the Greek tragedy Antigone, written by Sophocles in 500 BCE, Creon, the antagonist and ruler of the city Thebes, learns the lesson of fate the hard way. His decisions throughout the play are influenced by his fundamental values. Creon believes that money is demoralizing and is so powerful it can even corrupt the morals of good people. Misogynism is the act of hating women, Creon shows he is a misogynist by treating women of lesser value than men and speaking down on them.…

Upon reading The Epic of Gilgamesh and Antigone by Sophocles were able to draw a connection in the way both of these pieces view women in society. Both pieces show, women were once seen as frail beings that should stay in their places and be brought out just to please men. Fortunately, we as a society have come far in terms of women being viewed as more equal to men than in the late B.C. times but that does not mean women are finished gaining the same rights that men have. During The Epic of Gilgamesh , we can see that the place of women in society is seen as less than men 's but not completely viewed as a nonentity in ancient Mesopotamia. The civilization sees women 's place as just the bearers of life: we see that with the prostitute…

Two major themes that run throughout Sophocles’ play Antigone are loyalty and power. Loyalty and power are what drive the play forward; this theme affects not only Antigone, but Creon as well. Both Antigone and Creon are affected by this conflict, but in different ways. Antigone is first introduced to us as a young and loyal girl to bother her brother and the gods, that only wants to make sure both her brothers have a proper burial; according to the laws placed by the gods if someone does not receive a burial there will be no way for family members to reconnect with them in their life after death. Creon, who is the king and Antigone’s uncle, sets a law in place that no one is to bury or even mourn the death of Polynices.…

As a true tragic hero, Antigone does not let society influence her decisions or dictate how she should act and feel. Instead, she decides her course of action by thinking about and acting in accordance with her virtues and values. That is what Antigone views as an essential constituent of leading a good life. As Antigone courageously accepts Creon’s order for her impending death via being imprisoned in a tomb, she says to her sister, “You chose to live. I chose to die” (Antigone 625).…

Antigone, the protagonist and namesake of the play by Sophocles, is a courageous and ambitious character for unapologetically breaking laws of the city to do what she sees is right. Both of Antigone's brothers Eteocles and Polyneices have died in a war against each other, but only Eteocles is given a proper burial by the King. Antigone believes a burial is essential for someone to find peace after death, so she is reasonably upset. She decides that if no one else will do it, she will bury Polyneices herself. At the very beginning of the play, Antigone asks her sister Ismene to help carry out the plan.…
