The speech Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier delivered in 1904 made a bold statement in which he stated all citizens of Canada should be united and treated fairly. Although there has been many times in which Canada had made poor decisions, I still think Canada has improved since 1914. Canada, a country that has been improving was historically bound to make mistakes. Aboriginals were stripped of their rights and freedoms, and also had been stripped of their property rights. These issues left Aboriginals faced with many problems.Canada had been pursued as a united and equal nation, despite showing impressive progress throughout the years, they still managed to bring injustice to certain groups of people, this group being the natives. A vast majority of natives experienced poor living conditions, diseases, high rates of infant mortality and suicide(7,11). Canada wanted to assimilate natives, they were also look down upon and were treated poorly. Racism was also a factor which played in Canada 's injustice, natives were wrongly convicted of crimes which they did not commit(7). Natives were the first settlers of this land, their beliefs consisted of sustaining wildlife, land and food. Natives also contributed to Canada in many occasions the most noticeable one being the World Wars. From 1982 to now Natives are still looked down upon, they survive and live on small reserve and still get treated unfairly(11). Natives still fought for Canada and continue to do so, they helped in many cases as well, another one of them is the separation of Quebec in which they disagreed to be parted from the rest of Canada showing that they still want to be a part of Canada even though they have been treated poorly.
