Really today can’t even compare to what the work place was like for women when our grandmothers were alive and they had to work under the ruling control of men, but the truth is sexism is still around in the work place. In the early 1940’s women were held back from promotions, discredited for their hard work and simply over looked because they weren’t men. In modern society we still do have this bias ways of thinking and acting in the work place. (Source E) “…transsexual neuroscientist Ben Barres, who worked as both woman and man in science…after one talk, a faculty member was overheard saying, “Ben Barres gave a great seminar today, but then his work is much better than his sister’s.”) This goes to show you how Ben Barres as a female was looked at differently that when he was as a male. The faculty member thinking Mr. Barres wasn’t a transsexual, but had a sister who did the same work as him in science. The faculty member then went on to say how Mr. Barres work was much better than his sisters, even though he did not have a sister, and he was the same exact person he was as a female at least consciously. Although the faculty member could not understand Mr. Barres and his past life was the same person, he still discredited Mr. Barres female self for having terrible work even though it was the same work by the same person, just different …show more content…
Women take their interests to get them ahead in life, but men do not like seeing this, and that is why men hold women back from achieving their true abilities. I do think of this as oppression, and women know what is happening finally, so they are now taking full control of their lives. Women have conclusively left the restraint of men and are taking over a lot of higher positions in this world. Just as Hillary Clinton is running for president, this is giving confidence for other women that are interested in being in charge to take charge, and stop thinking of how men portray
