Women in Combat Stress, hardship, injuries,and abuse are all struggles people endure while in combat. A majority of people only experience these obstacles for a short amount of time. Although, there are some who are stuck struggling with the results of combat the rest of their lives. Men have always been the only gender in combat roles, but are women capable of handling these obstacles just as well as men? I do believe women can accomplish anything a man can and do it to the same level. However, given the circumstances, putting women in a combat situation is very difficult and the necessary tasks could not complete to a specific standard. Women tend to lack the physical ability to perform as well as a man or they are not as efficient. Most of the injuries women suffer from are “stress fractures from carrying heavy packs” (Ghose 7). There is no way to avoid women getting injured from carrying their packs because removing any of these objects or not carrying the pack at all is not an option considering they will need everything the pack holds. “The average US soldier carries at least 60 pounds of gear” the pack usually consist of clothing, protective gear, body armor, weapons, and electronics (Robinson 1). If a soldier is being inserted into the field for an extended period of time they will also have to carry a rucksack that will be loaded out with another 60 or more pounds depending on mission’s requirements.
