To create the company in 1994, many already-established nuclear power organizations united. Today, NEI is a result of the consolidation of the American Nuclear Energy Council, the US Council for Energy Awareness, the nuclear division of the Edison Electric Institute, and the Nuclear Utility Management and Resource Center. Some of these organizations have a history spanning over 60 years in the nuclear industry (“About NEI”). The Nuclear Energy Institute asserts that nuclear energy is beneficial, that it can help us out of the growing energy crisis. They believe that nuclear energy can be a reliable and affordable choice, while creating jobs and fostering economic growth. This summit would most likely take place in the United States, as the Nuclear Energy Institute is not international. Whereas Women in Nuclear would draw in people who are advocates for gender equality in the nuclear industry, the Nuclear Energy Institute would appeal more to the politicians and business men or women. This summit would take these two seemingly different groups of people, and place them on common ground. Some of the proposed topics to be discussed at the summit would include: how nuclear energy can empower women and youth, why nuclear energy is the clear answer to the energy crisis, what you can do to push nuclear energy, and how the nuclear industry could help the environment and the economy at the same time. It might be in the best interest of both companies if they also included an open forum for people to ask questions directed towards the presidents of both groups, who would be in attendance. This would allow the visitors to voice any questions they had about the organizations and what they each bring to the table. Another aspect of the summit could be educating people on how nuclear energy has been implemented in other countries around the world, and how it has turned out for them.
