For the past 3 years, volunteering at a women’s shelter and their food bank and clothing donation room, I have seen a diverse range of people accessing food banks on a daily basis. Often, while searching for the items that they need, individuals disclose their heartbreaking stories. Many of them are single moms, unemployed, and recent immigrants, who must access social resources to help ends meet. It is a hardship for them to better their education or work experience, because they have responsibilities to provide for their family first, rather than themselves.…
Women throughout history have always been seen as stay at home mothers before World War Two. According to the article, “How War Changed the Role of Women in the United States”, “states that, “In early America, a woman’s life tended to center around farm and family.” The stereotypical, perfect American family had the father that worked hard each day during the week and the mother who raised their children, cleaned, and made food. But in fact, women always worked outside the house but it just wasn’t glorified as much.…
In the book, City of Thorns: nine lives in the world’s largest refugee camp, by Ben Rawlance, the stories of the lives of nine refugees present the struggles and frustrations of the tangled lives in a refugee camp with on-going conflict. There is a lot of different issues occurring throughout their experiences in the camps, some very horrific and life threatening to these individuals. Although the book focus more on the men in the camps, the experiences the women goes through demonstrate that there is a global health issue with maternal and child health care services. These experiences are shaped by the situation of being a refugee and living in a conflict zone and they outline the type of intervention they find most important and appealing.…
Also, in the article Where thousands of refugees wait for food or death by Amy Waldman, Waldman states that many Refugees that are headed off to long term camps or asylums are not given the equal opportunity that they should be. Although, in The Other Side of the Sky by Farah Ahmedi, Farah had to go through so much to get her chance at a better life which she finally received, being a hard working and fortunate girl. All the refugees coming from Afghanistan and any other unstable places to be living, need to be taken into the best care and put into the best opportunities possible for their future, like what coming to America did for Farah. So, even though the refugees have high hopes for a life outside of Afghanistan, most are still not…

To answer that, I ask you this. Imagine yourself in the shoes of an asylum seeker from Syria. In Syria, there is a civil war, being fought between Syrian rebels and the Syrian government. Many, many people are killed each day, doing simple things like going to work or school, or even just in their own homes. Imagine that each day, you know there’s a good chance that you might die.…

I never considered how difficult the life of a refugee is until recently. This past summer I traveled to Honduras on a mission trip. I went to work in an orphanage for a week. The orphanage was an outstanding facility, but the quality outside the orphanage was very low. There were probably ten people living in a hut made out of trash.…

People are dying. Shattered glasses, lifeless eyes, desperate crowds - these are the images seen by millions suffering in Syria, Sudan, Burma, Colombia, and a dozen other conflict zones around the world. Ironically enough, although we claim ourselves as a generous and supportive nation, all we have been doing is smashing our door at those who were desperately fleeing for their lives. More refugees should be accepted into Canada because they need our help and they do not cause us any problems. One problem that people had for refugees is that people often associate refugees with terrorists and they think that refugees in will increase the chances of terrorist attacks.…
Introduction Long before all the laws that got women to be able to do things like get the right to vote, have high paying jobs or even be able to wear clothing that were above their knees, they had to go through many hardships. Beginning in the late 50’s though, the women began to get irritated with the way society was treating them and the inability for them to get a job and be equal with the men (“Women 's Liberation Movement” 2008 December)). Between the years of 1963 and 1970, there was a movement that some women might say was just as important as the suffrage movement. This was called the women’s liberation movement. This movement is still in some ways still going on, and has been for the past 100 years.…
The Endless Humanitarian Crisis The humanitarian crisis of this world is at a level never seen in the history of man. Not since World War II have there been so many refugees or IDPs. In 2014, there were almost 60 million refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs) around the globe right now. Put another way, that’s one in every 122 people worldwide. An immediate and perhaps unprecedented action has to occur to react to the unprecedented amount of people in dire need of necessities.…
