Women Should Be Allowed In Combat Argumentative Essay

Improved Essays
Women in combat is not an unusual thought nowadays. However, it is causing people to have mixed emotions. Women should not be allowed into combat just to equalize sexs. They should be allowed in combat provided that they past the mandatory tests. “Women constitute about 14% of the 1.4 million active military personnel” (Jim). Many people do not want women in combat because they do not think it is fair for women due to them not having the same physical ability, mental ability, or the fact they are taking a “man's” job. Everyone knows both a man and a woman and know that they don’t have the same physical ability. Men usually are stronger and faster than women due to the way they are built. This is the most common argument surrounding women

Remember when segregation was an issue? Remember when sexism were an issue? I do, and that issue is still going on today. “Why Marines, Unlike Army and Navy, Are So Against Women in Combat” by Anna Malrine speaks of the injustice and sexist attitudes portrayed by the Marin Corps in recent discussions. Malrine is honest when she speaks of the wrongful attitudes toward women in this article, women in combat could help our marines not hurt them, women can help have a different mindset, open up areas that men can not fit in, and work with the women of the world.…

In Molly M. Ginty’s article “All Guts, No Glory”, she explores the issue of women serving in combat and the unfair reality that females have faced in the U.S. armed forces. In my opinion I strongly believe that women should be allowed to participate in combat. Many reasons why are if she signed up for this and has all the right training for it she should be allowed to go into war and fight for our country the same way men do. Women put their life at risk the same way males do getting shipped out to different countries protecting our country. In the article it says “one of the most dangerous jobs in the military today is driving a truck – a position that many women hold.”…

Women in combat. It has recently sparked a debate on whether women should be allowed in combat or not. In my opinion, women shouldn’t be allowed in combat because they are too emotional to handle the long periods of time of being on tour, they aren’t physically built like men, and there would be too many problems with having men and women living together. Women are way too emotional to withstand being in combat. They wouldn’t be able to handle the 100+ degree temperatures, the stress of being away from their families for long periods of time, and they wouldn’t be able to handle being shot at all the time.…

Women in Combat Odierno states, “If you can meet the standards we’ve established, then you should be able to perform in that position, and that’s where we are headed.” In other words, Odierno asserts that even though you are a woman and want to go into combat forces, if you can meet the standards that have been established you are more than likely able to get into the combat position you’d like. Despite the fact that women should stay at home and fulfill their family needs, women have the right to choose whether or not to be in military forces because standards can be met and gender is nothing but an immutable characteristic. Women are the caretakers, the nurturers, and the one’s that make a house a home.…

I agree with the choice of all combat roles being open to women. All women and men should have equal opportunity when it comes to jobs. Even though military women are told that they are not able to handle being in combat physically like men are, they show they are capable of showing themselves worthy. Lisa Grossman states in her article, "The Right to Fight: Women at War," how combat roles are now open to women. Grossman discusses that, “Rather than requiring that an applicant be male and reach certain physical requirements, the job description may specify that applicants should be able to lift a specific weight of ammunition, or throw a grenade a set distance…. Under the new US policy, each military department will have to establish new physical standards for each job, which recruits will have to reach regardless of gender” (Grossman n.p.). This will allow women the same…

By restricting women from all military roles, the military is also restricting them from full citizenship and proper training. Women suffer from the combat restrictions because they never have the same opportunities as males to advance or earn the same wages. Because of the lack of advancement, women also end up losing any kind of status; resulting in harassment. “Women and men alike applaud these changes and urged further reform. Critics, however, claimed that a feminist social agenda was hurting the military and national agenda” (Brannen).…

Women can serve in the United States military, but have always been banned from combat. People believe it “unfit” for a woman to serve and die in combat for her country. Others believe women are frail and need constant attention from men. Although many Americans believe that women should not be involved in combat, the U.S. government should allow women to fight in warzones because women can serve just as well or better than men, women would be able to provide a morale boost to troops, provide critical thinking skills, and it promotes equality throughout our armed forces.…
