Catcalling is a problem that faces women in almost every region across the globe. This is an issue that majority of women who have ever found themselves victims consider as a form of sexual harassment (Lloyd 8). However, men usually consider it as a compliment meant to appreciate women. Many activists believe that the reason why women are catcalled more as compared to men is because the latter generally dress in a conservative manner than the former. A survey conducted in 2012 by Ending Violence against Women Coalition showed that 43% of young Canadian women had experienced catcalling (Lacy 1). This means that women’s mode of dressing will obviously differ from one woman to another. While there are women who feel free and comfortable in revealing clothes, there are those who would rather be all covered. It would, therefore, be unfair to restrict women to a particular mode of dressing simply because there are those who will never get comfortable in certain clothes even in 100 years. Similarly, different ages come with different prevalence. It would be very unacceptable to deny a young attractive teenager the chance to dress in the kind of clothes she wants. In my opinion, if a woman feels comfortable in whatever attire she is in, then there she goes. The society should focus more on addressing male decaying morals rather than how women dress (Narayan 1). For a long time, women have been marginalized and disempowered in so many things including their modes of dressing.
