1. Introduction
• A well-established company within the pharmacy industry would like to expand its client base (female customers) by attracting and retaining more women consultants. The company is having a difficult time attracting and retaining women consultants for several key reasons. Some of the difficulties that this company has encountered as it relates to retaining women consultants is a lack of advancement for female workers, a gender wage gap between men and women, and no compensation packages offered for new consultants.
2. Background
• This company is well-established in the pharmacy industry. The company mission is disease exploration with a concentration on cancer research. The firm is losing women consultants to organizations like the CDC because of better pay and career advancement opportunities. Klein and Lamb (2015) state “Most notably, many women reported leaving the company after being recruited by other firms, where they felt their chances of promotion were greater” (p.23). There is also a pay disparity between the male and female works. It is public knowledge, men who have the same level of experience as woman are getting paid 10% more than their female counterparts. Hill (2016) states “Did you know that in 2014, women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 79 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 21 percent” (p.1)? In addition, there are no compensation packages offered to new consultants joining the organization.…
