Women Oppression Research Paper

Oppression is a condition that exists when a person or groups of people live within the boundaries of domination, and other people have the power to determine their actions. People experience incidents of oppression because they belong to a group that people define on the grounds of some characteristic that they share. Such characters may include class, race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, ability, age, and etcetera. Oppressed people are subject to physical and psychological abuse that can occasionally lead to death. The oppressors apply such punitive action to their victim when they feel that the victim is disobedient, to discourage them and others from trying to challenge their situation and some time out of pure hatred. While women in most Western countries have stood up against the oppression and have found their voices, some cultures still uphold severe restrictions on women and their way of life. For example, today in most Muslim countries, some rules do not allow women such fundamental rights as driving or walking around alone. A man has to accompany a woman at all times (Murray, 2012). However, women in the Western World including Canada have fought hard to overcome this type oppression and they enjoy some freedom. Eventually, the woman raises a healthy and a happy family (Qasim & Akram, 2015). However, for women to gain access to good and high paying jobs, they have to have equal opportunities for education and skill training. The government can also help women through micro-finance, vocational training so that the women can start to alter their lives and those of their families.
