During World War II and the many wars and battles that have occurred throughout history, people come together to unite in order to help support the war. To be a part of a war effort, means to participate in the act of supporting a military force. The work done on the home front is as essential and significant to the war effort that is done by soldiers in the field of battle. Assuming you 're talking about the USA, it was the first time women entered the workforce in large numbers. They began to take over many industrial and agricultural jobs that had previously been monopolized by men.
The WAC (Women 's Army Corps) was also established during the war, allowing women entrance into the military in record numbers to take up support and bureaucratic roles as more men were incorporated into garrison and overseas service.
