Essay On The Three Gospels

The three Gospels share some similarities. They all tell the story of women going to the tomb of Jesus looking for His body on the first day of the week after Sabbath. The stone that was covering the entrance of the tomb was moved so the women could enter. The women were given the message/command to tell the apostles that Jesus has risen, and He is headed to Galilee before them. The women were frightened by the news and of the source(s) of the news. The three Gospels also contain differences. Only in Mark’s version, were all the women shared the name Mary and the number of woman varies or is not mentioned depending on the version. The stone that was mentioned in Matthew was greatly detailed on how it was moved. “And then there was a great earthquake. For the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it.” (Matthew 28:2) That is how the women entered the tomb. In Mark and Luke’s version, it was not mentioned how the stone was moved because when the women arrived it was already done. The women in this story are Mary Magdalene, Mary Salome, Mary the Mother of James. In Matthew’s version the two women are Mary Magdalene and another Mary. In Mark’s version the women are Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Mary Salome. In Luke’s version, they aren’t listed by name. I think women are important in this story because they were viewed as less intelligent and moral than men so therefore they wouldn’t be considered credible
