Boys have it all; they have fame, fortune, intelligence, and voices in society. While all women are treated like dirt, they do not have a chance to show off their full potential. Daisy is aware of this fact and when the nurse informs her that her child is a girl, she weeps instantaneously. She knows her daughter must do what her mother does and play her life as if she has no brain at all. In this way, her daughter will end up with a filthy rich husband who will take the upper hand in their relationship. She wants her daughter to be happy, and marrying into a rich family can lead to her child’s independence. Her daughter will not have to worry about money or raising a child of her own because her husband will have all the money to take care of it. In Daisy’s case, she is independent from responsibilities and worries, yet she is unhappily married to her overpowering husband, Tom. Therefore, equality is just a dream in Daisy’s eyes; she is the only one who realises women are characterized by their beauty and their lack of intelligence.
