Women In Nicki Giovanni's Poem Ego Tripping

Every human begin is born with an ego. Society gives ego a negative connotation which have a lot to do with people miss interrupting of Giovanni’s poem “Ego Tripping”. For many years women put their egos aside to tend to the men in their lives. Throughout history little recognition was not given to women for their contribution to society. This poem shows how proud the speaker is of her individuality and her accomplishments. The women that is speaking is aware of herself and her creations and celebrate being a women from African descent. Nicki Giovanni’s poem Ego Tripping Heavily incorporates the Geography context to demonstrate women equality using “the Nile”, “Sahara desert”, and Rome. In the third stanza the women mention that her daughter is Nefertiti which give the reader the idea that she nurtured and raised a Queens which is a glorious achievement. Nefertiti acquired exceptional power and was said to have equal status as her husband and influential woman. Giving birth to a queen should give a women enough reason to ego trip. “the tears from my birth pains/created the nile” (13-14).
