Thanks to the support of The United Way: Women Gaining Ground, we have seen the tremendous gains in the participants demonstrating healthier self-esteem and building relationships with each other. With this group, we have incorporated more one-on-one counselling time into the schedule to better support the women this year. More time for one-on-one counselling, which allows for individualize support with goal setting and women talking through the trauma they experienced. Time spend with counsellors was deemed important by many women during the post-evaluation of the program. We understand how important it is for women to have private space and time to work through challenges they are experiencing.

Not only are we able to set aside time to be available to the women currently in the program, but also past members. The current group – consist of nine (9) participants. In addition, we offer regular counselling and support to seven (7) participant from the previous group, as they move forward with their goals and aspirations. An important part of WOTM is understanding that a woman’s journey is not completed within a year. They will continue to experience ups and downs as the years go by. For the signature assignment, I have decided to choose a case/client I have been working with for six months. The client is a 27 year-old female, Native American, married, has children, low-income, Epileptic, PTSD, and drinks alcohol. She was self-referred as well as referred to me from Indian Education with the local school district. The main reason for the referral was due to the fact that she had been a rape victim, diagnosed with PTSD, wished to feel “normal again”, and also wished to have help working with husband to help him understand. On intake, we talked about her PTSD in length and what happened.…

Results: As much as I would love to report in this last part of the paper that our efforts were successful, I can only recount marginal growth within the group. Though the growth present was encouraging. Liz and I began to seek out one of the women who was particularly hard for me to relate it. Nonetheless, the more we invited her over dinner or attended events we so bravely put on, we discovered a woman who had a tough exterior, but a very soft inside. As Liz and I began to step into her life, she opened up more about past hurts and allowed us to counsel her through it.…

Chapter’s 6 and 7 of Women’s Voices, Feminist Visions discuss the important topics of Sex, Power, and Intimacy, as well as Reproductive Justice. Although there are many important things discussed in both of these chapters, I feel by far the most relevant topic to my own experiences, is around asexuality. Given my fairly low sex drive, and emphasis on other aspects of relationships (such as shared activities, and companionship), I can identify with some aspects of the asexual community. Besides my personal experiences, however, I commend the authors for bringing to light, and discussing key issues on this important topic.…

As with most domestic abuse agencies, women are expected to be served the most at SALP. One of the most daunting fears of a woman who has or wants to escape an abusive relationship is the thought of not being able to support her or her child on her own, so programs will be available at SALP to focus on their strengths and build connections in the job market. This would hopefully make clients comfortable and confident enough to actively participate in society as productive citizens. Due to the fact that SALP’s clients would primarily be…

It is used to describe inequality by taking their race, neighborhood, level of education, and socioeconomic status as determined by their parents and making it the grounds on which their chances of success is nurtured or limited. Regardless of the reason why or how they got are there, it becomes the margin for their life. I read an article called “Group Cognitive Behavior Therapy Program with Troubled Adolescents” written by Sarah Edelman. In this article, counselors in Sydney, Australia designed a cognitive behavior therapy program. This program was designed to assist troubled teens in school since they have not responded well to the regular classroom. The teens in this group have suffered from psychological issues such as anxiety and depression while others lacked motivation and had learning disabilities. These issues have caused them to perform poorly in school and the therapy program had a goal which was to reduce the anxiety and depression of students, that way they would feel more relaxed and motivated to do well in school.…

In a perfect world everyone, regardless of gender or sexuality, would be considered equal and treated with the same dignity and respect. However, the world is not a perfect place and two of the big inequalities that can be seen worldwide are the way women are treated in comparison to men and the struggles that same-sex couples endure, that heterosexuals do not. The video clips “Class Dismissed”, “All Different, All Equal”, and “Daddy & Papa” shed light on these inequalities. Where is a woman’s place? Is it at home or at work?…

Women And Equality In The Workplace Gender Equality is the most common issue which has come across at the workplace in which women are treated inferior than the other men employees. It has been noticed than women are being paid less than men, and there is a male-dominant crowd in the workplaces. For no reason women are set apart when they are equally intelligent as men. It is very casual that women are also capable of doing a particular job as men. Gender discrimination in workplaces are fallacious assumptions and must be stopped because women are just as productive as a male employee is in doing an allotted task.…
