How many of us would feel shock and angry and also hurt hearing comment such as ‘yeah, that’s where women belong, in the kitchen?’ How many of us would think that it just wasn’t right, and something needed to be done? Or, how many would sit back and do nothing? We belong to one of the categories, but what matter is, where do we belong. The negative attitude toward women exists since time immemorial. Women have been treated as weaker being or subordinate to men. But how often do we ask why is there such inequality in the world? Is there anyone who has pondered the reason? No doubt, there are many of us who know the reason and have worked for the cause to change. And yet, we cannot deny the fact that gender inequality still exists. It prevails more in our society, the so-called rural, under-developed place. As a matter of fact, the discrimination against women begins from the birth itself. It is sad but it is true. It gives women the knowledge, skills, and self-confidence necessary to participate fully in the society and make them aware of their rights and help them to claim with confidence. However, in most rural societies, including our own, women are deprived of education. They are often stopped from going to school. Most women are not considered as the bread earner of the family since they are sent off to their husbands’ home after they are married. For this reason, most parents give priority to boys’ education than girls’. They prefer to send boys to school but not girls. No doubt, for this reason, more than 70% women in our society are illiterate and
