In class I thought that it was interesting that white women during the post-revolutionary time was only allowed a little education so they could be able to have something to talk about with their husbands. Board of education. When we got on this topic my mind immediately thought about the movie “ruby bridges” This movie was about a little black girl who had the courage to be the first black child in her town to attend an all-white school. It was so sad that people went as far as taking their kids out of school because they didn’t want their kids learning with a black girl. I agree with the idea that segregation is not legally done, but it is still seen in other ways. I can attest to “segregation” in my own elementary school years. When I was in elementary school, I moved a lot. My very first school was a majority white school, but I only was there in kindergarten. In first grade my family and I moved and I ended up in a majority black school because mostly low income family kids attended the school. For the most part I liked the school and my teachers. It was not until I moved back to the school I started in Kindergarten that I realized didn’t learn the same thing. It was very ironic because the schools were in the exact same county. I think that the family wage is still in perspective even today. It is viewed by many that the man is the provider of the family. I personally believe that the wife and husband both are supposed to be the provider together. I also find it interesting that even after the equal pay act women are paid less than men for doing the same work. In WVFF, the bureau of labor reported that “Women made up 18 percent of the labor force in the 1900, almost 30 percent in 1950 and more than 70 million in 2013.” (Shaw and lee, pg 483). Despite the increase of women working they are still paid less than men. According to the notes in class regarding census bureau states that “Average women earn 78 cents to each dollar paid to men”( Hatch) I think that it is ridiculous that a woman with the same skills as a man is paid less because she is a
