Women and gender have played huge roles in our history and in ancient films that we see today. We have seen these gender roles in Troy, 300, Alexander and many more. Throughout ancient history, women have showed and have helped us understand more about different ancient Greek cultures. With there role in society we are able to find out more about how each Ancient Greek city felt about gender and gender roles. The roles that women have played in history and in these movies are different and sometimes very similar. It is extremely interesting to look back and find out how they shaped empires and the differences on how they are treated in these different Greek city states. Helen who was said to be the most beautiful women in the world was married to Menaleus but Helen is abducted by paris of Troy. The Greeks eventually put together the largest army anyone has ever seen and they travel to the gates of troy to take Helen back and conquer the city. In the movie Achilles falls in love with a prostitute and protects her as his own. Women of the Athenians played a role in seducing men and dictating their thoughts and ideas because of their ability to seduce. They did not have the power that the Spartan women had. Menelaus is killed by Hector in the movie troy. However, he actually survived the trojan war and takes Helen back in which they are said to have lived a very happy married life. Helen represents how important women truly were to these Greeks. Its crazy to think these people started a huge war over this women she tustve been smoking hot. So women obviously played a relatively important role and although troy might not be the most historically accurate film they did not really get across how much women were appraised. In the movie Alexander, Alexander the great is the king of Macedonia and is a very great king who conquered so much of the ancient world. The movie shows the true homosexuality that the greeks took part in as opposed to 300 and Troy who decided to avoid that section of history at all costs. Alexander was very different he married a Persian women and encouraged other Greeks to also marry the persians and to mix cultures. Alexander’s mother Olympias played a large roll in the Macedonian society. Olympias played a huge role in the reign of Alexander. Women played a role in politics as well, however, they were never really apart of the monarchy unless they had some sort of royal bloodline. In the movie the free women were still secluded at home with very limited public and social encounters. Growing up Greek my father has tried to engrave Greek history in my mind. I cant tell you how many times I have seen these movies throughout my life. With that women then had a lot less power that they do
