It is faced in the United States, Central America and South America, and other countries. However, how is the problem in the United State compared to those other countries? Unfortunately, there is no information on the extent of human trafficking. This is mainly due to how hidden the problem is, which is another reason why awareness and further research should be increased. The U.S. Department of State estimated that between 14,500 and 17,500 individuals are trafficked into the United States yearly (HumanTrafficking.org). On the contrary there are other sources that states that 700,000 to two million women and children are trafficked globally, and within that amount between 45,000 and 50,000 are trafficked to the United States. It seems that that not enough efforts are being placed in providing accurate information about the seriousness of this issue. The scope and magnitude of human trafficking is immense. Cases have been seen in twenty different states with the majority of the cases coming out of New York, Florida, and California (Richard, 1999). To see the seriousness of human trafficking internationally, Thailand, Australia, and Cambodia will be examined. In Thailand, ethnic minorities are at greater risk of being trafficked than Thai nationals themselves.
