either weapons or ammunition were made. The high demand for weapons because of the war made employing women much easier. That resulted in women working in areas of work that were formerly only for men such as railway guards, ticket collectors, bus conductors, and firefighters. Although women did the same work as men they didn't get paid the same waig as men. Around 1917 munition factories were still the primary employing women due to the war. (Heath, 1-5)
