The Woman Warrior confronting the Baron and killing him as a woman inspires Kingston to embrace her own female identity. The woman warrior revealing her identity before killing the Baron inspires Kingston. Kingston retells the woman warrior’s experience, “You’ve done this,’ I said, and ripped off my shirt to show him my back. ‘You are responsible for this.’ When I saw his startled eyes at my breasts, I slashed him across the face and on the second stroke cut off his head.” (Kingston 44). Fa Mu Lan kills the Baron and is discriminated in the process. When Fa Mu Lan notices the Baron’s startled eyes at the site of her breast, it shows how she is subtly being discriminated. Therefore, through Fa Mu Lan revealing herself and even feeling some satisfaction for being a female to do all the things China says a female couldn’t, inspires Kingston to accept her female identity. Likewise, Kingston uses labels to show the similarities between her and her people, Arguing, “The swordsman and I are not so dissimilar. May my people understand the resemblance soon so that I can return to them. What we have in common are the words at our backs … And I have so many words- ‘chink’ words and ‘gook’ words too-that they do not fit on my skin.” (Kingston 53). She wants her people to see that they are similar because of the words on their backs. When she says the swordsman and I aren't so dissimilar, it symbolic for her being able to see the difference between them, which is that it's primarily a “man's job.” This reveals that she has accepted her sex identity. Similar to when Fa Mu Lan reveals her female identity before killing the Baron, proving that she accepted being a female. This confirms that Kingston is looking through the perspective of Fa Mu
