At the beginning of the play Fefu is anticipating the arrival of a majority of her friends, since some were already on set. As each woman arrives the level of energy escalates rapidly. While at first many of the women stay silent at uncomfortable moments, like women of that era mostly did, and kept problems within themselves, soon they begin to reveal what is truly wrong. At the very end Fefu goes off to kill a white rabbit, which in turn kills her friend Julia, Fefu returns to find her dead friend in her wheelchair. At first there’s no understanding to this, but when the audience finally understands that each woman is a representation of Fefu’s emotions then it is seen that killing off Julia was killing off Fefu’s “weakness.”
While this killing off was not fully explained until the talk back, the cast portrayed each woman well. While each woman was interpreted and portrayed perfectly for that individual, they did not work well together. However, the issues they each portrayed hit home pretty extremely for me, it was difficult to understand without the personal experience.
