Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is perhaps the most popular composer of the classical period. He has composed over 600 works which includes some of the most famous and loved pieces of multiple styles of music. Mozart was considered a prodigy and certainly set the standard higher for generations of musicians that come after him. Although Mozart proved to be a musical genius, his life was not an easy one. He encountered many obstacles in his later years. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born January 27,1756, in Salzburg. He was immediately baptized the next day at St. Rupert’s Cathedral as Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart. Leopold Mozart was Mozart’s father and happened to be one of Europe’s leading musical teachers. Leopold gave up his teaching position as soon as he discovered his son Mozart’s outstanding musical ability. He was the only music teacher in Mozart’s youngest years and started him with instruments like the clavier, violin, and organ. As a child, Mozart went on many European family journeys. All of Mozart’s siblings were exhibited as prodigies. Mozart met a number of proficient musicians on these journeys and acquainted himself with a lot of their works. A lot of the works Mozart composed while in Salzburg are still being performed today. Mozart was not happy with his position in Salzburg and strenuously looked for a new position elsewhere almost the majority of the time he was there. The reason Mozart didn’t like it there is because he wanted to be in a place that had more music variety and another reason is because he wasn’t getting paid very much. Mozart’s passion to move and work elsewhere was only strengthened when the court theatre in Salzburg was closed and the other theatre became mainly reserved by visiting troupes.
