Wolf In Greek Myths

A wolf has always been an important part of the Slavic mythology and folklore. It is involved in many of their rituals; a wolf is also believed to be a totem animal of the ancient Slavs. Wolves were considered travellers between the world of the dead and the real world. (CT 15) Moreover, in Slavic mythology they are closely related to werewolves and vampires. It may not be straightforward right away, but there are a number of similar ideas that can be found in the Slavic perception of a wolf and Tyler, the Creator’s music.
Tyler, the Creator is an American rapper, who released a trilogy of albums called ‘Bastard’, ‘Goblin’, and ‘Wolf’. He is the leader of a hip-hop collective called OFWGKTA, which is short for “Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them

Particularly interesting is the song “Transylvania” of the album “Goblin”. Throughout the song Tyler compares himself with a vampire. Not surprisingly, he also mentions raping women in this song as well as lyrics like: “The only motherfucking Wolf here, I spit venom” or “Bite her in her fucking neck, bite her in her fucking neck/ Bottom of the fucking lake, bottom of the fucking lake/ Call my gang of wolves and bats, call my gang of wolves and bats/ It's a full moon tonight and these hoes ain't acting right”. Tyler raps about being a wolf, which spits venom, which is a wolf combined with a vampire. This combination almost perfectly fits the description of the Slavic werewolf. As I mentioned earlier, werewolves would often have “relations” with their widows, and Tyler talks about rape on the same song. With this song Tyler connects two aspects of the Slavic wolf: he is an undead vampire-like creature, and he is killing and raping people, therefore being a “menace to

The wolf is represented by the s’klallam tribe because in the tale, mink didn’t want to share with wolf and even though wolf sneaked his catch away; he still left mink with something. This was interesting to me because in real life, even when the settlers didn’t want to share the land with tribes, most of the tribes tried to help and assist them. This story can be interpreted however one thinks it should be interpreted. If one were to read this tale, it would behove of them to research the tribe like myself to get a good idea of the origin and then connect that with your interpretation.…

The Bad and the Good: Finding a Balance… or Something Like That Finding a balance between good and evil is fairly difficult. Trying to justify your innocence by telling someone you listen to classical music like Mozart and Bach, doesn’t mean that you are. In society, the struggle to see a difference between good and evil comes in play with, for example, the government trying to fool us into thinking that what they're doing is for the greater good and in school-like settings with young children, teenagers, and etcetera. Despite being taught that what they are doing is trying to protect us, we can see it crumble in world affairs such as the controversy in the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.…

In Greek myths and literature, dogs have often been used for expressing some kind of monster, particularly beasts associated with the underworld.1 Kerberos, the dog of Hades, figures prominently in Greek myth and literature. The dog is described as a beast, often made up other animal parts. Kerberos has been portrayed as possessing multiple heads, with the tail of a serpent, a mane of snakes, and the claws of a lion. This dog was first mentioned in Homeric poems but was first referred to by name by Hesiod. The dog's duty was to guard the gates of Haides, which is the entrance to the underworld, to prevent ghosts of the dead from existing the underworld, which Hesiod describes clearly: “And before them a dreaded hound, on watch, who has no pity,…

Oklahoma! : When the Dark Comes Right Behind the Song Initially, Oklahoma! seems like a happy, bouncy musical about lovely Laurie and her cute cowboy Curly, however it has much darker undertones. Suicide, forced relationships, and death overall are all included in this “cheerful” show. These twisted themes are presented several times throughout the musical, but are particularly visible in the songs “Pore Jud is Daid” and “Lonely Room.” Between the two of them, the songs feature our big strong cowboy Curly suggesting suicide and the monster that is Jud being briefly humanized, before demonizing himself once again.…

Throughout the years, song writers have relied on music as an outlet for self expression, however more often than not, gender bias and sexism are predominantly integrated into the lyrics of mainstream music. Misogyny in the music industry has continuously been a prevailing issue, and with little to no alteration over the years, gender bias in favouring men has never been more abundant in today’s society. Artists induce patriarchy by implementing degrading lyrics and sexist verses towards women, all of which succumb females to continuously live in a culture that subjugates and oppresses women (KBrady, 2012). “Kill You”, released in 2000 by popular American rapper Eminem, evidently encompasses misogyny by using derogatory and offensive lyrics…
