“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, one of the world’s best-loved fairy tales written by L. Frank Baum in 19th century. L. Frank Baum was born 1856. This fairy tale is not just a simple adventure story. This story also reflects the economic and political situation in the 19th century. During that time period, it looks good on the outside. However, there were weak presidencies in the inside. From 1876 - 1900, there were four different presidents. None of them were helpful.
They had issues with farmers, industrial workers, the economy, and a weak presidency.

People think that the fact that hid behind this book is Scarecrow is actually the farmers that live in the midwest. Farmers have working situation during that time period, because of the inflation it was hard for people to pay back debts and they were looking for help from the Populist Party. The Tin Woodman represents industrialized northern industrial workers. The Populist party think that they work for long but the salary is just a little. Then Populist party believed the workers have lost their human heart, and became a mechanized people. The Lion represents an investor of Wall Street in the bad economy. The Wicked Witch of East and the Wicked Witch of West are Bank and railroads, they stopped the farmers getting into the market to earn money. The Winged Monkeys were working for the Wicked Witch of West, so they are obviously Americans or Chinese railroad workers. The liar Wizard of Oz was lying in the movie and pretended that he has a great power to help people as US presidents of the late 19th Century. Emerald City represents the Greenback paper money, so Munchkins are just common citizens. The main character, Dorothy, is the American everyman. The Yellow Brick Road is the gold way.

When everybody else had the tornado carried Dorothy, her beloved dog Toto, and her house to the place where the mountains live, the kingdom called Oz. Because her house crushed the east witch who is harmful towards the munchies, she was befriended by them and got powerful silver shoes from the east which. The east witch who oppresses the munchies, I think is a representation of the capitalist at that time, and it says Dorothy killed the east witch, which is actually the author telling the people at that time that the people who lived in the urban areas are oppressed by the capitalists. They earn money by them, and make them have a really hard life in their environment to lower the cost. Although the normal people don’t like them, they don’t have the capacity to balance both sides, so capitalists got weakened by the outside help and people are still going to be happy, just like the House killed the
