Personal Narrative: A Career In My Writing

Improved Essays
In the past, I like to believe that I have been an incredible writer. Writing has always been a hobby that I enjoy doing. In elementary school, my teacher had us write a short story, and she allowed us to print them off and bind them. I have also had one of my poems published into an actual book that was filled to the brim with poems. Ever since then, I have always wanted to have one of my own works published.
Out of all the subjects that I know, media, history, and music are probably subjects that I know the most about. In this day and age, it is a bit hard to not have any idea what’s going on in the media, unless of course you live under a rock. This is a technology-based world, and the media is constantly circling around the world. Within

When I came to orientation, I was stuck between two different majors, which were creative writing, and the one I have now. I actually ended up picking this major by the ‘flip of a coin’. Strategic communications is something that I know will be interesting, and I could always do my own writing on the side. Once I get my degree, I hope to go into public relations, and working with the media. I have looked into public relations a numerous amount of times recently, and I have just fallen in love with it. I think it will be fulfilling in the sense that I will be able to help someone become big and get their name out into the world. The issues I have with this major mainly revolve around finding that one perfect job that will keep me interested. I would like to find that job without having to go too far. I originally planned to move to California for a job, but now I am not so sure. Other than that, I do not think I have many issues with this career choice, and I think that it is perfectly suited for me. Outside of my major, I think the most intriguing issue for me is the process of publishing books, and also writing them. I would love to hear someone talk about the process that one has to go through for their book to be published. If I do want to publish my own story one day, I think it would be nice to know all the steps I need to go

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

Who You Are As A Writer gave me the opportunity to truly discover what my writing process was. It wasn’t just a superficial overview of what it might be, it was an in-depth definitive assignment that showed me some of my weaknesses and strengths when it comes to writing. I had to identify what was hindering my writing and understand that maybe it was either time for me to adapt the rule to the situation at hand or get rid of it altogether. The first portion of Who You Are As A Writer, Portrait of a Writer, allowed me to think about what rules I use during my writing consciously and subconscious; it also me look back at past experiences that have shaped my writing process.…

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

By looking back at my writing experiences, I can tell that writing does not come naturally to me and find it to be a real challenge. I may think I did well while writing but in reality I did horrible. It takes me a while to write a paper then other people and there tends to be plenty of problems that try to slow me down. One of the hardest problems I have while writing is trying to find the right words to say. Every time I write I always take longer than anyone else because I always second guess what I just wrote and have to rewrite what I am trying to say.…

When I was younger, I would eat up books faster than I got them. I’d frequently been caught reading books in the zaniest of places. I remember wanting to try writing, although I could never fully convey the words in my mind onto paper. Every once in a blue moon when I was able to; only I could understand what I wrote. It had fascinated me, and honestly frustrated me, that people could write these whimsical and arcane books that I’d held onto like a mother to her child.…

Writing has never been one of my strongest skills nor my favorite. Even though I enjoy reading another person’s writing the thought of someone else reading mine just sends chills down my spine. I wouldn’t consider myself a decent writer whatsoever. This defiantly gets in the way of how I feel about writing at times, because it makes me insecure of what others are going to think after they finish reading my essay. When I signed up for ENGL 1301 I was quick to assume the course was just going to consist of reading a lot of material and taking quizzes that covered the readings.…
