Third Witch
There to meet with Macbeth."

Three hags know that they meet Macbeth, they wait for this encounter. Everything has been planned, their trick to take Macbeth for a ride has been successful. Even Hecate's speech in act three, scene 5 dispels sb's doubts concerning witches' intentions towards Macbeth:
"Have I not reason, beldams as you are,
Saucy and overbold? How did you dare
To trade and traffic with Macbeth
In riddles and affairs of death;
And I, the mistress of your charms,
The close contriver of all harms,
Was never call'd to bear my part,
Or show the glory of our art?
And, which is worse, all you have done
Hath been but for a wayward son,
Spiteful and wrathful, who, as others do,
Loves for his own ends, not for you.
But make amends now: get you gone,
And at the pit of Acheron
Meet me i' the morning: thither he
Will come to know his destiny:
Your vessels and your spells provide,
Your charms and every thing beside.
I am for the air; this night I'll spend
Unto a dismal and a fatal end:
Great business must be wrought ere noon:
Upon the corner of the moon
There hangs a vaporous drop profound;
I'll catch it ere it come to ground:
And that distill'd by magic

    “How did you dare/To trade and traffic with Macbeth/In riddles and affairs of death,” (III.v.3-5). Hecate is frustrated with the three weird sisters meddling with Macbeth by showing him the prophecy. Although, Hecate believes that Macbeth’s behavior is disappointing because of the way he handled seeing the prophecy. Hecate decides that the three witches must handle Macbeth and his overconfidence towards the witches. “He shall spurn fate, scorn death, and bear/His hopes ‘bove wisdom, grace, and fear./And you all know security/Is mortals’ chiefest enemy.” (III.v.30-33).…

    The witches are deceiving Macbeth and making him think he is indestructible. Macbeth learns that Macduff and Malcolm are coming to battle against him. This fulfills the witches’ prophecies, in one article it says, “Also their references to no man born of woman (Macduff), and till Birnam Wood come to Dunsinane are further examples,” (“What are Some” 1). Macbeth’s arrogance leads him to make foolish decisions during the battle which gives Macduff a greater advantage. Macduff reveals to Macbeth he was delivered by cesarean section and not by a woman’s birth canal thus, fulfilling the witches’ prophecies.…

    Before committing monstrous deeds, Lady Macbeth took away her femininity, as she ordered, “And fill me from the crown to the tow top-full/ Of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood” (1.5.49-50). Lady Macbeth appears innocent, but in reality is fiercer than a man after she cast a spell to make her more evil. Shakespeare goes against gender roles during the Elizabethan time, to further the theme. She passes her malice onto Macbeth, as she exclaimed, “Look like th’ innocent/ flower,/ but be the serpent under ’t” (1.5.76-78).…

    When put in certain situations, it is likely evil will come to mind and that is because the nature of humankind is evil. Although Macbeth, Jack and Roger all have obvious reasons for why they commit their evil actions: too much freedom, power, jealousy and the feeling of fear; it still is difficult to come to the conclusion of why others do it. In other words, it is struggling to personally conclude the nature of humankind is evil in both literary works and in real…

    With Macbeth’s lack of assertiveness both the witches and Lady Macbeth use this flaw to gain control of him and lead him into action. The witches and Lady Macbeth both have very influential effects on Macbeth but the witches are the bigger catalyst towards Macbeth’s downfall. Lady Macbeth may have had dramatic effects on Macbeth’s actions such as the plan to kill Duncan but eventually she became useless to Macbeth as he began to do everything himself. Even her first actions at controlling Macbeth were influenced by the witches. Lady Macbeth shows her desire for kingship after reading the letter, “Great Glamis, worthy Cawdor, Greater than both, by the all-hail hereafter, Thy letters have transported me beyond This ignorant present, and I feel…

    The witches tell him through apparitions to “beware Macduff, (4.1.81)” that nobody born of woman can harm him, and that he will not be killed until Birnam wood moves to his castle, Dunsinane. These all come true in odd ways, and Macbeth's reliance on prophecy led to his downfall. In conclusion, the combination of the witches, Macbeth's reliance on their prophecies and Lady Macbeth caused his downfall. Because Macbeth relied on the witches, he gained much power, and with it, hubris. This was the main factor that led Macbeth to become a murderer, paranoid, and almost…

    Goold decided to have three apparitions played by actors who for the first half of the scene appeared to be dead. Goold’s choice to the apparitions portrayed by actual people represented that the apparitions posed an actual threat to Macbeth and foreshadowed the idea that those who you don’t expect can hurt you the most. By having the witches speak in a voice other than their own shows that there is an underlying evil to what the witches do. When the first witch asks Macbeth to “Say, if th' hadst rather hear it from our mouths, Or from our masters',” and deepens her…

    Historical Young Adult books are so few and far between, I was delighted that The Witch Hunter was both that and a fantasy. The earlier time period fit the tone of the story very well, especially considering that Elizabeth's profession is to hunt witches. In this world, a powerful wizard was blamed for the start of a plague years ago, so all magic is forbidden. If you are caught practicing witchcraft, you will be arrested and burned at the stake. There are those who of course oppose the laws - called Reformists - and this is the group Elizabeth finds herself involved with after escaping a sticky and almost fatal situation.…
