On the first day of middle school, I was misguidedly excited. I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for such an awful experience. However, I was a little scared too. After all, the middle school war connected to the high school, and older kids are scary. I was well aware that I had to tread carefully as to not get my ass kicked. How hard could that have been? It would have been a lot easier had there not already been a feudal system of lords and peasants put into place, or as everyone else called it, Seniority. In case you aren’t familiar with Seniority, it means older kids get priority over the younger kids, at least at my old school. For example, if I was one of the first people in line for lunch, I would be shoved to the back of the line before the doors dad a chance to open. It also meant that if a ninth grader wanted my seat on the sports bus, wherever that was, I had to move somewhere else. No excuses, no buts. Their word was law. Being …show more content…
Not literal witch hunts, of course. I’m talking about when a person gores on a rampage while trying to find the person who spread a nasty rumor about them. There were more than a few times I got my ass kicked as the tried and convicted culprit of the rumors. I was always innocent, but it’s hard to convince a person that their best friend lied about who started the rumor, because they themselves started it. It’s also harder to convince them of this while getting your ass kicked. The beating got less frequent as people realized I was just the school’s favorite scapegoat, and didn’t even know the names of the people kicking my ass. After I was found innocent of my crimes, I received a few heartfelt apologies, and even made a few friends because of it. I was just happy at that point, witch hunts no longer concluded with burning at the

When it comes to folktales and scary legends people tend to not believe in them now a day. Back in the ancient time people had the belief of witchcraft. The trials first sparked and that the witch-hunt events were put into a serious concern was when the three young girls were caught performing rituals in the woods outside the village. The girls, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams, and Ann Putnam, all were young girls of the Salem village, claimed to perform some type of fortune-telling rituals as to find the hints of their future husbands, as well as to ask for more information on what type of man would be most suitable for them to marry. (need more warrants to show how it became a “superstitious suspicion”) After this event became a superstitious suspicion, Reverend Samuel Parris, father of Betty Parris, called on the authorities in order to explain for such hysterical type fits. And of course, there was no explanation found that seemed to be more reasonable than…

According to Robert Rapley, “The most pronounced characteristic of a witch-hunt is that the accused is automatically treated as guilty” (Rapley). In our court system today, we believe that every individual is innocent before being proven guilty. We see the complete opposite of this idea in the Salem witch trials. All people accused of witchcraft were automatically assumed guilty and thrown into…

The Salem Witch Trials are known for the execution of twenty innocent victims. The civilians of Salem also accused two hundred innocent people of performing some type of witchcraft supposedly. “Eighteen others followed Bishop to Salem’s Gallow Hill, while some one hundred fifty more men, women and children were accused over the next several months” (Bodian). A witch is a person that practices witchcraft, which is also known as the Devil's magic. Witch-hunting in Early Modern Europe The infamous witch hunting which took place in Early Modern Europe is a fascinating and recently contested event of significance to New Zealanders. From around the time of the mid-15th century to that of the 17th, the European continent was plagued by what is now known to be ‘The Great Witch Craze’. Many were put to trial under the belief that they had been practising Satanic rituals that did not align with conventional Christianity. Now, as historians look back to the witch hunts, there is much horror in reflecting on the torture and numerous deaths that ensued from successful prosecution, as the witch trials became a leading event in Early Modern European history.…

Salem witch trials, to some, is a mystery, enigma, or confusing, but there is a possible answer to this situation: Jealousy. 20 people in Salem, Massachusetts were hanged in 1692, because of being accused of witchcraft. Some people say that religion cause it. Others say that it was because of them trying to explain the unexplainable. Here’s why I think jealousy would beat out religion and explaining the unexplainable is explaining the cause of this whole ‘which ‘witch’ is a witch’ hysteria.…
