A philosopher once commented, "Wisdom is founded on memory; happiness on forgetfulness." Through this quote the philosopher is trying to suggest how every action we choose to make affects us later in life by what we remember and what we forget. The quality of having experience, knowledge and good judgement completely reflects on our past and how we remember it. Through the novel, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, there were several people hanged for being so called "witches", which was was based on a true historical event. When people read The Crucible, they remember it is a historically accurate book, and have the knowledge and good judgement to never hang someone for being a "witch". In some cases, people never learn from their mistakes, so they never have the wisdom to not do what they did in the past. Sometimes when people forget their painful memories, it makes them a happier person. On the other hand, memories can also bring someone love and joy to think back to, so if someone looses their old happy memories it can be painful. In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, Reverend Hale tells Elizabeth Proctor that, “No principle, however glorious, is worth dying for.” Hale states that it is better to lie than to die for something you believe in. I strongly disagree with this because I would rather die standing up for something than to lie. Many people stand up for their beliefs and protest in something and I think that is great because it shows their pride. Everyone should be proud in what they believe in.…

It is no surprise that history repeats itself which even includes the most horrendous events of the past that people hope will never occur again. Unfortunately the sad reality is that events that seem so dark and out of control from the past do occur again in the future like in the 1950s. During that time Joseph McCarthy: a United States Senator, accused many people into being communists which similarly happened in the Salem Witch Trials that occurred in the 1690s where many innocent souls were accused of witchcraft. Now one of the unfortunate people McCarthy accused was playwright author called Arthur Miller who was famous for writing The Crucible. Millers purpose for writing The Crucible was to show the similarities of the Salem Witch Trials…

The following statement, “The crucible is essentially about courage, weakness, and truth,” is correct. Other times some characters show the trait of weakness, those characters are John Proctor, Mary Warren, and Ann Putnam. There is a lot of both those characteristics, but what mostly lacks in this play is one simple thing, the truth. Abigail Williams is a perfect example of this.…
