To begin with, a wisdom or knowledge that one gains when he or she struggles, is the ability to deal and cope with negative emotions. In the story of Fahrenheit 45, Montag tried to have a conversation about Mildred’s suicide attempt last night, but she just ignored it like it never happened. “ ‘Last night’, Montag said again. Mildred watched his lips casually. ‘What about last night?’ ‘Don’t you remember?’ “(Montag 16). In this conversation, it demonstrates Mildred’s internal conflict inside of her, as she is facing many negative emotions and tries to escape from reality by suiciding. However, she was saved, and still continues to hide her negative emotions and thinks that she is happy. Later, this stabs her right in the back, because …show more content…
This is shown during a conversation between Montag and Faber. Montag had just finished reading the poem “Dover Beach” to Mildred’s friends. This had lead to them getting scared, crying, and then ultimately left the house. Mildred had gotten angry and Montag, and he had felt that he has made a mistake. However, over the communication device Faber had given Montag, he tells them that”...I know, I know. You’re afraid of making mistakes. Don’t be. Mistakes can be profited by…”(Faber 100). This demonstrates how Montag is accepting his mistakes and using it to grow as a better person, because Faber is encouraging him to make more similar “mistakes”, as it builds on his courage and makes him more ambitious. Additionally, another example of using one’s own flaws to build into a better person, was a personal experience I had. When I was young, I would always lie, and this got me into a lot of trouble. Over the years, I have learned that this is a bad habit, and have grown to life less and less. This allowed me to grow into a better person, because I learned how to accept and take responsibility for my own actions. Why is it that in our society feeling sorry for one's self is unacceptable? I read an article that claims such indulgence will lead one to failure. The author’s use of his friend's job losses and the inability to hold down a job was the direct result of self-pity, a device to be seen as a victim in an attempt to garner another’s attention and sympathy. In actuality, this is a fallacious example of cause and effect (self-pity > victim role.)…
