There are three ways to groom a wire haired dog breed. You can either clip, Hand-Strip, or use a stripping knife. Some people say that wire-haired dogs don't shed. Well that is sort of true, the wire coat does shed, but more like a person does. With wire-haired dogs they have two types of hair in their coat, the soft dense insulating undercoat, and the harsh protective outer coat. The most desired coat looks and feels like fine wire it is hard and stiff. It does not feel soft, silky or fuzzy. The hair only grows to a couple inches and then it dies.
